When children start school, they first learn "high-frequency" words. These are words like 'earn', 'learn', 'burn', 'turn', etc. Beyond the high-frequency words come the more descriptive, precise words that make reading and writing richer. For example, the word 'walk' is a high-frequency word. The words 'stagger', 'trudge', 'amble', and 'trot' can all describe types of walking and are the next step in a child's vocabulary. These are sometimes referred to as Tier 2 words in schools.
With our team of machine learning specialists and lexicographers, we identified 10,000 of these words that matter to academic success. We call learning those words the 10,000 Word Journey. We have begun the first steps of this journey. The Social Journey exposes children to a total of 240 social-emotional words and the Narrative Journey, exposes children to around 1500 storytelling words.
We are working on further products such as persuasion words for older students and growth mindset.
