We recommend a flexible teaching framework as part of the Teacher Guide enabling you to fit the program into your curriculum in whichever way suits your classroom needs. This includes:
A Bite a Day: to teach one-word a day (5-minute lesson)
Stuff your Face: to teach a set of words e.g. eye words within a 30-40 minute lesson.
To help you to differentiate for your pupils, the Teacher Guide also provides ideas for how to teach each word, example sentences, data around the word and extracts from popular texts.
There are two ways to use the product in classrooms. One is to learn a word a day and try to establish an ongoing dialogue about words so children develop word consciousness. Another is is to teach topical clusters of six words around a narrative theme once a week.
As such, the lessons will focus on introducing a single word with tips and tricks on how to understand unfamiliar words based on their structure or context. The daily word can then be highlighted or inserted into lessons later in the day, for reinforcement.
We are currently working an assessment framework for teachers to be able to measure the impact of the program on their pupils.
