Epic Word Adventure was developed with instructional support from our academic experts at NYU and the University of Cambridge to ensure kids learn while they’re having fun. Here are some of the ways in which it complements the school curriculum:
- Vocabulary development
Epic Word Adventure combines words curated from curriculum lists with more challenging words to ensure that children will learn words that stretch them and boost their reading age, and improve their oral fluency and reading skills.
- Unlocking STEAM concepts
STEAM means science, technology, engineering and mathematics. STEAM learning for children is most effective when coupled with interaction and play that helps them discover what the relevant concepts mean. Epic Word Adventure includes words for numbers, shapes and sizes, and words for technology (e.g. invent, 3D printer, drone, and motherboard).
- Accelerating children’s reading and spelling skills
In Epic Word Adventure, every time children collect an object, they interact with the word attached to it by tapping on syllables, or onset-rimes (first letter-rest of the word), hearing how they are pronounced, and putting them in the correct order. Breaking words into sounds and seeing the letters they correspond to develops children’s phonological awareness, which is an important prerequisite for reading, spelling, and writing fluency.
